A while back I would have said its just the current buzz. Get everyone talking about your product and its great PR, whether your product is different or better, its in demand. My opinion has since changed after a series of discoveries.

I tried a couple of mineral foundations and thought what’s all the buzz about??? One was a ‘cheapy’ Loreal (back when I didn’t know the difference) that was filled with talcum powder. After a while it actually hurt my face to apply it. The effect it had was, well….very thick and very powdered. Needless to say it ended up in the bin. Next I tried Jane Iredale which has alot of hype and was one of the first to make it big in NZ. The coverage, or should I say lack of coverage made it completely un-usable as a stand-alone base. I finished it off as a powder over my liquid foundation making it the most expensive ‘transculent powder’ I’ve ever used! My next venture was to Bare ID, which I liked. Good coverage and easy to apply. But wrong for my skin type!!! You see, people trying to sell you mineral makeup will tell you it’s great for all skin types. How, I ask? With a clay base to it, it has to be oil absorbing. Which is great for an oily skin but not so great for normal – mature skin. Anyway, I wore it everyday for about 6 months to see if I was wrong in my hypothesis. Unfortunately for me I was right and I was covered in small breakouts. Because I don’t have oily skin it was sucking things out of my skin that quite frankly would have been better left alone! Besides, dry skin ages quicker and there’s no way I want something absorbing the little oil I have thanks…

But I persisting in my quest to find the perfect mineral makeup range. Why? Because there are so many things that I do love about the use of minerals that it was worth it. Minerals, are obviously natural. Not that natural is always better but in this case I believe it is. They provide a naturally occurring sun defence, great for those who are allergic to chemical sunblocks and the anti-inflammatory qualities of some clays are beneficial to sensitive skins. Speaking of sensitive, mineral makeup need not contain any artificial colourants and the powdered forms don’t even need preservatives. Colours and preservatives are 2 of the most common irritants for sensitive skins. Even if you don’t have sensitive skin there’s something about the feeling of your enhanced gorgeous all occurring from nature. I also love the ease of application of the powder foundations. Literally swirl dip brush and swirl again (seriously, its that easy) and I challenge you to try and make it look bad or uneven. It really is makeup 101 but with the finish and coverage of a pro. The range I chose, GloMinerals also has a mineral liquid foundation range (I wasn’t going back to powders for me, not after the breakouts) The coverage is excellent and leaves a dewy finish with no need for any kind of powder unless you really want to. There’s something about the mineral pigments that cover redness amazingly – which is exactly what I need to look like a supermodel – and the strength of the pigments makes eyeshadow intense or fabulous sparkly or both!

In a nutshell its here to stay. It does all the things that foundation of the past years have been trying to achieve synthetically but it does them naturally and it does them better. Come in and get colour-matched by one of the team at D’Aguiar:hair.skin.nails and you’ll get free advice on which foundation is right for you. Check out our staff before and after shots. We figured we couldn’t give a greater testimony than that, right?
